Who are you addicted to on Twitter? Parents edition.

Who are you addicted to on Twitter? Parents edition.
My mom like twitter very much
“My mom like twitter very much” – my son at age 7. Yep, those were spelling words.

Here are a few of the people I’m addicted to for insights on parenting & health:

  • @SavingCase – Mom of a child with a rare disease. I’m addicted to how she keeps the window into her life crystal clear so we all can learn from her experiences.
  • Erin Moore – Mom of a child with cystic fibrosis. I’m addicted to her brilliant thinking and passion for her children’s health and well-being.
  • Jenn Sprung – Mom of a medically-challenged child. I’m addicted to the way she cracks me up, makes me think, and inspires me to bake.
  • @SolidFooting – Mom of a very medically-fragile child, but she also manages to run marathons. I’m addicted to her motivation. If she can get up and go running in all weather, I sure as hell can.
  • Christy Collins – Mom whose child’s challenges make me hold my breath sometimes. Also shares great insights on web development. I’m addicted to her wry observations.
  • Catherine Rose – Mom of a medically-fragile child. I’m addicted to her ambition to change the world for the better.
  • Lisa Bonchek Adams – Breast cancer patient and mom. I’m addicted to her mindfulness. She helps me to stay aware of our limitations and opportunities as parents – universal, but thrown into high relief when you are in treatment. And I love her garden.
Note: all moms. I follow lots of dads, but none of them tweet with any consistency about parenting. My favorite parent-related tweets this week were from a dad however:

10yo daughter having a BLAST at camp for kids with dwarfism/skeletal dysplasia funded by Newman Foundation. Yep, the $ from salad dressing.

Imagine for 51 weeks you have to look up to see peers’ eyes, walk faster just to keep up. Then for 1 week, you don’t. This is that week.

I love mother and child advocate, @KindnessGirl…changing the world with kids in toe, one act of kindness at a time.

And I tune in to @HonestToddler whenever I need a smile. Laughter is the best medicine for the challenges in parenting…right?

And a selfless plug for pediatric ideas and perspective in the weekly DrDownload by yours truly: @MDPartner. Making collaboration the foundation of good healthcare for kids.

Thanks, Gayle! Those are great suggestions.

I follow your wisdom via my Clinicians list, but I’m wondering if I should create a subset: Clinician-Parents.

Here are all my lists, in case anyone wants to check them out:

I find them to be a useful way to sample the firehose.

I follow several moms on Twitter, @redneckmommy has a remarkable and irreverent outlook on life. Having two typical teens, a very high needs younger boy and a giant nastier puppy makes for an interesting look at parenthood, life in the colds of Canada, the Canadian healthcare system and special ed system, and her inimitable ability to make me laugh and cry, not just in the same blog, but often in the same sentence keeps me coming back for more.

The other “can’t miss blogger” is on Twitter @thebloggess. There is no one with more appropriate foul language, ironic commentary, and profound and heart-wrenching bleeding on the screen of her emotions and experiences living with RA, severe depression and general anxiety, than Jenny Lawson. If you haven’t heard of the great James A Garfield Christmas Miracle. . . well Google it now.
