Stanford Medicine X: Participatory research

February 7, 2014 By Susannah Fox 3 Comments

Brett Alder and I spoke last night at Stanford Medical School’s Engage & Empower Me class:

Today is a travel day for me, back to the East Coast, so any comments posted may wait in the queue — but please let me know what you think! I’ll post more about this event when I’m home, including links to the studies and resources I cited. Some are listed on this Storify: Participatory Research. And check the tweets, tagged with #medx.

Susannah, thanks for taking the time to give me the background on Tom Ferguson and the e-Patient Scholars Working Group. Truly a remarkable man. I didn’t know folks like Gilles Frydman and Alan Greene were also a part of the posse. Really enjoying the e-Patient White Paper so far.

Very well done on your presentation, especially the texture and richness you bring to participatory research. I’ve got a FB/e-patient community post in my head you’ve inspired. I’ll send a link when (if!) it’s finished.

Yes, Tom was truly remarkable and I’m so happy that I’ve been able to honor his memory by introducing more people to his ideas. And yes, it was quite a posse that Tom gathered around himself!

Those who haven’t yet read his “white paper” (really: a book) can download the PDF from e-patients.net.

My flight is delayed at SFO so I had time to post my draft remarks from last night, just in case you’re looking for links to some of the background I cited.

And I can’t wait to read that post you’re cooking up! Please do let me know when you publish it.
