November 14-15, 2018, in Jacksonville, FL: I spoke at the annual conference of the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network. (Listen to my interview with Janet Kelly, previewing some of the topics I discussed in my keynote and here’s a post with footnotes for my talk: Social media as a platform for hope.)

November 2-4, 2018, in Arlington, VA: I attended FAREcon, the annual meeting of Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE). (Here’s my collection of tweets from the weekend and a post with all my notes.)

November 1, 2018, in Washington, DC: I moderated the afternoon plenary session at the annual meeting of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. The topic was how comparative effectiveness research (CER) and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) help people make better-informed health care decisions.

October 23-24, 2018, in Washington, DC: I was on a panel at the Milken Institute’s Future of Health Summit 2018. My co-panelists Ilya Khalil, Deborah Kilpatrick, and Don Rucker and I talked about data as an engine of disruption in health care. (I wrote a preview post about what I planned to share and the video is now online.)

October 22, 2018, in Grand Rapids, MI: I spoke at the Great Lakes Health Connect West Michigan Summit.

October 18-19, 2018, in Boston, MA: I spoke at the Connected Health Conference on a panel with Don Berwick, Lisa Klesges, and Don Norman about the the L.A.U.N.C.H. initiative, a multi-stakeholder collaborative that seeks to address one of the key challenges of rural cancer care, symptom management. (L.A.U.N.C.H. is an acronym for Linking & Amplifying User-centered Networks through Connected Health.) Here’s a short post about what I shared.

August 10, 2018, in Nashville, TN: I spoke at Quorum Health Resource’s 2018 National Board Leaders Conference on the topic of Health and Technology Megatrends.

June 14, 2018, in Detroit, MI: I spoke at an event hosted by Tech Town Detroit that focused on cross-sector collaboration, asking:

  • How do we keep our intake valves open to new ideas and fresh thinking?
  • What can we learn by bending conventional rules until they break or by studying the artists and hackers who invariably signal the future?
  • Where can we find unexpected partners?

After the keynote, the audience worked together in an interactive workshop designed by Joyce Lee, MD, MPH, and led by industry experts and innovators. Crain’s Detroit Business published a Q&A that previews some of the topics I raised. You can also check out this Twitter moment devoted to the event and follow  for ongoing discussions.

June 7, 2018, in Bethesda, MD: I spoke at the National Cancer Institute‘s event, “At the Crossroads of Social Media and Clinical Trials: A Workshop on the Future of Clinician, Patient and Community Engagement.”  This was a well-documented event:

April 26-27, 2018, in Washington, DC: I was featured in a video along with my fellow HHS CTOs at the annual Health Datapalooza.

April 19, 2018, in San Diego, CA: I participated in the 2018 Quantified Self Cardiovascular Disease Symposium at the University of California, San Diego. (Read about previous Quantified Self Public Health symposia.)

March 24-25, 2018, in Washington, DC: I was a judge at George Hacks, a medical and assistive device makeathon organized by George Washington University students. (For background, check out my posts on how to judge an innovation, home health care hacks, and the HHS Invent Health initiative.)

March 14, 2018, in Scottsdale, AZ: I spoke at the Governance Institute’s Leadership Conference for health care board chairs, board members, executives, and physicians.
